10 New Year’s Resolutions for LETTING GO & MOVING ON
68
Resolutions are made in anticipation of a new calendar year with new beginnings. As I was reflecting on what I’d like to personally change in the new year, Letting Go and Moving On, kept coming up for me. I’d like to share my thoughts with you and hope that they may encourage others to make changes in their lives that are important to their personal well being and happiness.
Resolutions are not wishes. They are personal goals. Things you would like to accomplish during the coming year.
Perfect Song: I'm Movin' On
10 New Year’s Resolutions for LETTING GO & MOVING ON
1. Let go of NEGATIVITY FROM THE PAST
There is nothing you can do about what happened in the past. But you can learn from the past and move on. The only way to begin a new chapter in your life is to stop re-reading the previous chapter.
2. Let go of TRYING TO PLEASE EVERYONE ELSE BEFORE YOURSELF
It’s okay to be helpful and do nice things for others but not in spite of properly taking care of yourself. It is important to find a healthy balance.
3. Let go of GRUDGES
Learn to forgive appropriately. Holding a grudge, feeling angry and hateful for too long can manifest into other issues such as physical illnesses. Learning to forgive and move on can be extremely freeing and beneficial to your future health and happiness.
4. Let go of RELATIONSHIPS WITH PEOPLE IN YOUR LIFE THAT ARE NOT GOOD FOR YOU
We all have choices of who we share our life with. Let go of people who always seem to drain you -- those that bring too much negativity into your life. Choose relationships wisely and fill your life with people that make you feel good.
5. Let go of TRYING TO FIX EVERYONE
Loving and caring about someone so much to a point that you are trying to constantly fix them is not healthy. It is important to let go of things that are not in our control. We can only change ourselves.
6. Let go of GUILT FROM PAST MISTAKES
Everyone makes mistakes. What’s important is that we learn from them and not make the same mistakes again. Some mistakes are huge. It may take time to let go of the guilt. Forgiving yourself is essential to moving on.
7. Let go of JEALOUSY
Jealousy will get you nowhere. Count your own blessings. Make a list of all the things that you have to be thankful for.
8. Let go of TRYING TO BE A PERFECTIONIST
No one is perfect. Be true to yourself without wasting time trying to prove anything to others.
9. Let go of BLAMING OTHERS
Take responsibility for your own life. Do not give the power away to someone else by blaming them.
10. Let go of WORRY
Make conscious choices whether or not something is worth worrying about. Do not give too much energy to worrying about things that really don’t matter.
Best Wishes For A Happy New Year!
Smile often! Life is too short to hold on to things that are hurtful and unproductive. Letting go and moving on may be exactly what you need to continue a fulfilling, happy life.

Dear Sharon,

I am bookmarking for frequent reminding through the year! While these words have obviously helped you, they also speak to me, eerily as if they know me... (LOL)?
Filled with wisdom. Voted UP & UABI.
May this be an enriching and peaceful year for you.
Love, Maria
Happy New Year Sharyn,

When we forgive, we free ourselves. You have great advice here Sharyn. Letting go of an offense, however painful, is vital to one's happiness and ability to move forward in life with a joyful heart. That includes our own mistakes being left behind. Great hub!
I let go so many things and the load is more bearable. So many pepople with grudges, even at the political level. This new year is cinsidered crucial for our humanity. We certainly hope that the change would help us to move on after the end of that cycle that the Mayans predicted. Thanks Sharon for this thoughtful reminder.
LORD

Happy New Year SS! Excellent resolution ideas and Rascal Flatts video! I'm still working on #10 but I'm good with #1-#9 ... we live and learn!
My resolution this year is not make a resolution...or to start drinking. Coin toss?!?! :)
I'm not a big fan of New Year resolutions. I do however, love the idea of letting go of the past and being positive. I also have to say I love the song "I'm Movin' On".
Excellent resolutions, Sharyn, and I'm adding one more for me - Put an end to procrastinating. And I shall start working on that . . . tomorrow.

Voted up, useful, and awesome Sharyn. These are great tips to follow. So many people live in the past and constantly worry about things that they can't change. I find myself doing the same every now and then. These are great steps to follow. Very well said. Best wishes:)
Thank you so much for this beautiful, heartfelt article it really relates to what i have done in my life. I still regret the things that i have done in my past. Things that have happened years ago. I still love my ex, the one i broke up with, who has since moved on. I know i worry a lot, mostly about the things that i have no handle on. And i know i have to forgive myself in order to forgive others. And i'm trying to move on- scratch that, i'm going to move on. Like i said this is a very moving article that relates to what i have done in the past. Keep writing you have a way with words of wisdom.
This is New Years resolutions in my style! We often set so many goals on how we should achieve something or be better at something but we also need to let some things go! Great advice and I will make some of them to my own this year. My best wishes to you during 2012! Voted up, useful
Tina
Fantastic resolutions! Each and everyone. This is actually comprehensive, including all others. Sharyn, I am so on your page with this. Of course it is not always easy to keep up with it. But if you fail today.... call it a slip and keep trying you best to keep it up. I wish you only the best for 2012 :))
....words to live by dear Sharon - that is why I am back here again at this wise and wonderful hub subject by you - life is like a work in progress and everyday (hopefully) we are here to learn something and move forward with our thinking ....and it's great writing like this which inspires us all - lake erie time ontario canada 12:21pm how is the weather on your side these days? Over here it's uncanny - more like late March than getting into mid January ......sun is shining, dry conditions, temperatures for the most part above normal .....
I'm late reading this but this has to be the best new years resolutions I've had the pleasure to read.
So true and full of wisdom.
Thank you for sharing
I made 7 pointer resolution this year and number 3 was letting go of all those disturbing moments which have become baggage and are not letting me to move on. Thanks for a really encouraging hub it is always helpful to read about your resolution to strengthen your commitment.
Thanks for SHARING.
Nepal is celebrating New Year. Happy New Year
Sharyn...Don't know how I missed this one. I try so hard to follow my peeps, but you know, as the list grows, my abilities shrink......Is it too late to wish you a happy New Year?? LOL!!
So far so good? I hope so.....one day at a time, one foot in front of the other.....Resolutions can be made at any time, thank goodness. They can be abandoned as well, if we feel they have worn out their usefulness....
Sharyn if you're like me (and most people).....you come up with a brand new resoltuion every morning....do your best to see it through and let the good times roll!!!! Up ++
