How To Create Your Own Unique PARTY PUNCH Recipe
I consider myself a Party Punch expert. Not the type of expert that is defined as someone who has a special skill or technique. I am an expert simply based on many years of family tradition.
I cannot remember a holiday, baby or wedding shower, graduation, or birthday party that my family did not serve cold Party Punch. After many decades, we have a non-spoken assumption that no matter what the menu for our celebrations, Party Punch will be our main beverage. This versatile drink is enjoyed by any age group. In my family, Party Punch is ready for consumption early on, even before food is served, and is refreshed during the entire gathering.
The great thing about making party punch is that you can be creative and no matter what, it tastes wonderful. Instead of giving you specific punch recipes, I am going to give you choices to create your own cold Party Punch recipe.
IT’S SO SIMPLE and YOU CAN CALL IT YOUR OWN!
**Taste test and adjust ingredients to your liking!**
CREATE YOUR OWN PARTY PUNCH RECIPE USING THE FOLLOWING AS YOUR BASE TO FILL ONE PUNCH BOWL (add more depending on size of bowl)
A. 2 liter bottle of carbonated soda
B. 2 liter bottle Hawaiian Punch (or ½ gallon)
C. 4 large scoops of sherbet
D. 4 large scoops of vanilla ice cream
E. Fruit
F. Ice (as needed)
Below you will find choices/ideas for A through F. Be creative! Choose what you like the best to create your own, unique Party Punch!
A. CARBONATED SODA CHOICES (refrigerate ahead of time)
- 7-Up
- 50/50
- Squirt
- Sprite
- Ginger Ale
B. HAWAIIAN PUNCH CHOICES (refrigerate ahead of time)
- Personally, I like to use regular, original Hawaiian Punch
- There are other Hawaiian Punch flavors that you may choose from including a “light” version.
C. SHERBET CHOICES
- Pineapple
- Orange
- Lime
- Rainbow
D. ICE CREAM CHOICES
- Certainly, you could get creative and choose a fruity flavored ice cream
- I always use vanilla
- The main purpose of adding ice cream even though you are also using sherbet is to create a smooth, frothy texture
E. FRUITY CHOICES
- Frozen fruit juice concentrate
- Frozen fruit
- Regular fruit juice (orange, pineapple)
- Lemonade
- Crushed pineapple
- Pineapple rings
- Orange rings
- Lemon wedges
- Cherries
- Cranberries
- Maraschino cherry juice
F. ICE OPTIONS
- Regular ice cubes
- Ice cubes made from fruit juice or punch
- Be creative with different ice cube shapes and sizes
- Add fruit to your ice cubes
ADDING ALCOHOL TO YOUR PARTY PUNCH
If you would like to add alcohol such as Rum, Vodka or Champagne to your punch, be sure to offer a separate, non-alcoholic punch if there are children at your party.
PUNCH: DID YOU KNOW?
- It is believed that the term punch comes from the Hindi word “panch” meaning “five” referring to the five ingredients first believed to be contained in punch: sugar, lemon, water, tea (spices) and alcohol.
- The term punch was first recorded in British documents in 1632.
- It has been alleged that British sailors were quite fond of this concoction.
- As the recipe changed and spread to seaport taverns, many bartenders considered themselves “master punch brewers.”
- Today, the word PUNCH is used to describe a wide assortment of drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, that typically contain fruit juice.
PUNCH BOWL
Classic punch bowls are usually glass and are accompanied by a glass ladle and glass cups. Consider using a plastic punch bowl, ladle and cups, especially if you are serving children.
I use a pretty, vintage crystal punch bowl that my parents received many years ago as a wedding present. But we don’t use the cumbersome, glass cups. We simply use disposable cups and a clear plastic ladle.
CREATING YOUR OWN UNIQUE PARTY PUNCH RECIPE
There really is no right or wrong way to make cold Party Punch. That’s why I’ve given you choices and am leaving it up to you to create your own unique recipe.
Punch is a special treat that will add to any festivities. Enjoy!

Hi HBN,
Thank you for your great feedback. You should try making it, you can't go wrong if you just follow the basics. I am now craving party punch but will have to wait until Sunday :)
This is what I bought for the next batch on Christmas: Cherry 7-Up, regular Hawaiian Punch, Pineapple Sherbet and Vanilla Ice Cream. That's it. Simple and really awesome. I hope you are enjoying this holiday season.
Sharyn
I didn't know you knew how to cook! Did you make those?? I'm not going to be very good at comenting on this subject, but you write good girl and the hooch looks delicious! Merry Christmas my friend. :))
jim
Hi Jim,
The punch I make looks like the one in the second picture. Reddish with a frothy top. You should try it. I know you could do it. You don't even have to go shopping. Create your own with whatever you have at home (within reason, of course).
I hope you are having a great holiday season.

I am a big fan of punch ... I made a really cool one for a halloween party once. What I did was took a disposable glove and filled it with fruit chunks and fruit juices. I put that in the punch instead of ice cubes and had a floating hand in my dish. It was cool. I might have to make a punch for Christmas Day because it sounds really good right now!
Hi BBG,
That's a great idea. There's so many things you could do with the ice alone that makes it interesting. I've used colorful small round balloons as ice for a baby shower. Thanks for stopping by. Hope you are enjoying the holidays.
Sharyn
I like fruity punches. I wouldn't be able to drink the punch with the ice cream but I would definitely love some fruits and some rum...lol
Hi Cardisa,
No need to include ice cream. I like it because it makes it creamy. But it's good without it. Add a little alcohol and enjoy! Have a great holiday.
Sharyn
Thank you, Sharyn, for this nice simple recipe for punch,
I will make myself some tomorrow and drink it with lunch.
I will omit the ice cream since I want to be thinner
And have more of your punch tomorrow with my dinner.
Well thank you DR, I love it! I hope you enjoy your punch with your lunch and dinner :) Happy Holidays,
Sharyn
Beautiful Sharyn! I love making punch in a pretty bowl - (but only when I'm wearing pearls:) lol. I have never tried using sherbet or ice cream for the base - what a great idea! Sherbet has always been my favorite as far as ice cream goes. Very pretty looking too:) up and everything!
Hi Kel,
I am craving punch SO BAD and still have to wait a few days :( If you do make it, try like a pineapple sherbet and also some vanilla ice cream. Adding both makes is really creamy and yummy. And the tiny pineapple chunks in the sherbet add to the texture. Thanks for your comments. Hope you are feeling "ready" for the holidays. Enjoy!
Sharyn
Very creative SS! I never made party punch and you made it seems so simple that even Sunshine could make it! sounds yummy too! Thanks for sharing!:)
Good Morning Sunshine,
I'm surprised you never made it. Well, you are very creative and could make an awesome combination, I'm sure. Your family will love it. Thanks for stopping by!

Old lady comment: Thanks, Sharon! I have the perfect vintage punch bowl and I am seriously appreciative of this flexible recipe! I will be bookmarking for many future references! Voted UP & UI...
Hip chick comment: Oh no you didn't-- include that clip from way back when I really had that hair-do! I am heading out for a nice can of Hawaiin Punch. I almost feel like 'watching' a work out tape, but will need a cool, refreshing drink of punch first (LOL)! Voted UP & FAB!
Perfectly delicious in every way! Happy New Year!
Love you lots, Maria
Ha ha, silly Mar! I'm glad you liked the flexibility of the recipe. I made our "family punch" on Christmas Day and will be making it again on New Year's Day when we all get together again to eat a delicious pork roast. "Watch" the work out tape, I love it! Happy New Year to you too!
Oooh, now I have a hankering for party punch! And why is it that the prettier the punch bowl the more I want to drink the punch? Hahah Fantastic hub!!
Thanks Ardie! Depending on the color of sherbet, etc., used -- it can certainly be a beautiful display. Although, as I made leftovers tonight in a boring Tupperware pitcher, it still tastes wonderful :)
Mmmm thanks for this one which I am bookmarking.
Here's to many more on here.
Take care and enjoy your day.
Eddy.
You are welcome Eddy! Have fun creating your own unique recipe. Have a great day!

That looks good. I've made a few too in my time, but although they tasted great, they usually were killers ha ha (as they were randomly mixed!).
Voted up, awesome, tweeted and SHARED.
This is awesome now I have a homemade punch recipe thanks really appreciate it
Great hub!
Hi Brett,
Great to see you. So you make "killer" punch, ha! Thanks for your votes and sharing. Very much appreciated.
Sharyn
Hello cebutouristspot ~ I'm really glad you enjoyed this hub. Thanks for stopping by.
Thank you jellygator ~ hope you enjoy!
My daughter made halloween punch with plastic body parts in it. This was especially effective because the punch is opague, so you didn't see the body parts until they slithered into your cup.
I like that note about tea being in early punch. i actually think iced tea would go well as an addition.
great hub!
Hi Grace,
I have seen some really awesome ideas for punch at Halloween. That is definitely a time to be creative. Thank you so much for stopping by to read and comment.

I want some NOW
Ha, ha, I do too. I love chugging cold punch. I will have to settle for pink lemonade for now :( Thanks for stopping by The Macs.
Some great ideas for a punch. I never thought of using either sherbet or ice cream but I like the frothy look.
Thanks for sharing
Hi Rosemay,
Thank you so much for stopping by. I appreciate your comments. Have a great day!

Thank you for these options in preparing punch. I think putting in ice cream is inspired. Voting this Up and Useful.
Hi Alocsin,
Thank you very much. I am tasting for punch and think I will buy it for the weekend Super Bowl. Have a great weekend!
Sharyn
These recipes sound delicious. My family believes in lemonade or sweet tea at family events, but I would much rather have one of your party punches. I am going to bookmark this for later use. Voted up and shared!
I am very wary of punch unless I make it myself, lol. I will try this recipe too. I like the idea of adding ice cream.
Voted up and interesting.
Hi Jeannie ~ While lemonade or tea might be healthier, what the heck, it's a family event. Why not splurge on punch. It really goes over very well with all ages. Thanks so much for sharing this Jeannie!
Sharyn
Hi Michael ~ not my punch lol. I don't add anything "too unusual" including no alcohol. I want everyone to enjoy it. Thanks for stopping by and your votes too.
Sharyn
Thanks! I would take a non-alcoholic punch please...
Hi Anamika ~ Two non-alcoholic glasses of punch coming up, one for me too! Thanks for stopping by! I hope you like it!

I loved the way you wrote this hub so that the reader can create her own concoction. I love drinking punch but have never made it for a party but will be book-marking this for future reference as you've made it look so easy and festive.
I also liked the "facts about punch" side-box which was very interesting.
Voted up, useful, awesome and beautiful.
