I STILL WANT MY WAY Especially on Mother's Day
70It's hard to believe it's been over 5 years
I still have bouts of streaming tears
There are times I need you more than ever before
I'm upset that life has closed that door.
My Mom, my friend, whom I trusted the most
This Mother's Day I give you a toast
To a beautiful woman who meant the world to me
The kind of extraordinary person I try to be.
You interacted with people wherever you went
Many people felt you were a God sent
You'd make people feel good wherever you'd go
No matter who it was, they would always know
That you were kind and considerate and funny too
Anyone you met wanted to be friends with you.
And even animals loved you oh so much
They had a sense of your gentle touch
Whether in your backyard or at the zoo
They easily became your friends too.
I miss you deeply, I still want my way
Right here with me is where I wanted you to stay
Yet God had decided your time was up
For me it was definitely too abrupt.
I told you I love you a million times
For that I have no regrets
And every time I find a dime
There are things I'll never forget
A calm, gentle peace comes over me
And I really feel like I can see
My Mother still guiding me from up above
Continuing, as usual, to give me her love.
You had many hard times throughout your 68 years
And I know that resulted in lots of tears
But no matter what, you continued to try
I truly don't think you were ready to die.
You hadn't accomplished all of your dreams
You were not ready to go, or so it seemed
But who am I always wanting my way
If it were my choice, you'd be here today.

This is lovely Saryn's Slant. We never stop missing them, do we? I know when my mom passed on and them my day a year later, I felt like a little orphan child though I was middle aged.

I do believe that it doesn't matter how old, the loss of a mother is devastating. I can relate because my Grandmother (my Mom's Mom), who I wrote about in My Little Girl, My Little Lady, passed away a couple years ago at almost 103 years old. You would think that because Grandma had a wonderful, full life that her passing was easier. Yet surprisingly, it was quite difficult. So many people do not even have their Grandparents when they are growing up, yet I had my Grandmother well into my 40's. I was fortunate and the loss was significant. Thank you Angie for stopping by.

Feeling like an orphan child . . . I understand. I am the oldest of three girls. I never had any children. My two sisters both have children. Because Mother's Day was a day for my sisters to celebrate also, I always spent Mother's Day with my Mom. And I would make the day special. So when it rolls around every year now, I have that "orphan" feeling.

Made me cry. It sounds so much like my mom. She was 67 years old when God called her home. Somehow I never saw this until today... of course I am naturally drawn to you today as we share so much.
I believe this poem could be about my Mom (substituting 82 for 68) and (quarters dor dimes, as we have laughed about...) And, for me two years later, this Mother's Day, I feel just as selfish and also WANT MY WAY.
Yet, like you, I carry Mom close in my heart with her strength, wisdom and wit. Thank you, Sharon, for expressing what I feel so deeply in my soul.
